Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Dear Seventh graders,

I just finished the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. I enjoyed this book because it is humorous and easy to read. I would rate this book an eight out of ten. The only reason I wouldn’t give this book a ten is because even though it is good it isn’t my favorite. Out of all the books I have read this year my favorite is probably Click Here.

I would say the genus of this book is fiction because this is just a made up story. Although they did make it into a movie it is still fiction. This book is a funny cartoon book, made to make people laugh.

I think the theme of this book is to make people laugh and to tell guys that it is ok to write in a diary. The theme of this book is the most important part. This author (Jeff Kinney) did a good job of making this book this book funny but not dumb. There are some books or TV shows that are trying to be funny but they are just dumb.

I liked the way the author put little illustrations on every page. Even though the pictures aren’t immaculate art, they still give you a visual on how the characters act and how they look. Although the pictures play an important part of your understanding of the characters, Jeff’s word choice played an important part also.

My favorite quote from this book is in the beginning when Greg says “Before I start I just want everyone to know that this is not a diary! I told my mom to get me a journal but she got me this.” I liked this quote because I think that it is funny that a guy is writing in a diary. If I was a guy and I wrote in a diary I would be scared that I might get beaten up.

The main character in this book is a scrawny little kid named Greg. He is the type of guy who tries to flirt with the girls and they just laugh at him. He only has one best friend and they are the only two people that sit at their lunch table. He isn’t very cool, popular, or smart.

This book is narrated by Greg. This book is about his mom buying him a diary and expecting him to write in it. Throughout the book you meet a lot of characters. You meet his older brother, Rodrick, his friend Rowley, his dad, mom and his younger brother Manny.

I noticed that the author made the text look like someone had written it and the picture on the front looks like it was drawn and taped on. What makes it even better is that it looks like a guy wrote it. The pages also look like they have lines on them like a journal.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read comics or likes a good laugh. Right now I am reading So B It by Sarah Weeks. This book is very good so far and when I finish I might read the rest of the books in the Wimpy Kid series.

Sincerely,
Lizzi
